Computer Skills Training

CareerQuest offers computer skills training targeted to employees who are undergoing a job-transition as a result of a displacement or return to work program. CareerQuest will develop a training curriculum that is customized to meet the requirements of the new job description or address the job-specific needs of the individual.

Some reasons employers provide job-specific computer skills training:

Return to Work (RTW) Programs

  • Provides workers with skills necessary for success in new roles that are offered according to the employer’s legal duty to accommodate
  • Helps workers integrate into their new roles faster and increases the success rate of RTW plans

Corporate Restructuring

  • Assists companies in retaining experienced employees who are displaced during times of corporate restructuring
  • Many workers can be retained in different roles when given basic training, including computer skills training targeted to the specific needs of alternative jobs

General Corporate Training Initiatives

  • Fully customized modules to meet the specific needs of an employer
  • Ideal for teaching a group of employees how to complete a set of job-specific tasks

A job-specific training program can be developed and delivered on an individualized, continuous intake basis for the following software applications:

  • MS Windows
  • MS Word
  • MS Excel
  • MS Internet Explorer
  • MS PowerPoint
  • MS Access
  • MS Outlook
  • Simply Accounting
  • QuickBooks

Additionally, CareerQuest provides training in assistive computer programs including Dragon NaturallySpeaking for individuals who are unable to use their hands to operate a computer, and JAWS or ZoomText for individuals with visual impairments.

Since the workers to whom this training is targeted are often on leave from work, it is usually provided at one of CareerQuest’s centres. This allows the individuals to receive training in our fully equipped computer labs, and allows us to provide individualized training in the most cost-effective manner. However, on-site training can be arranged for small groups.
