Huma Zaheer, B.Sc., M.C.J., M.A., T.E.S.L.
Centre Coordinator

Huma began working at CareerQuest’s Mississauga Centre in June 2004 as an Instructor/Facilitator. She primarily taught academic upgrading, but also facilitated the Job Search Training Program and the Customer Service Program on occasion. She became a Senior Instructor in February 2007 and the Centre Coordinator of the Mississauga Centre in May 2007.

Huma’s teaching career before joining CareerQuest included stints as an ESL instructor at Humber College, a supply teacher at a LINC centre, and a teacher at a language school in Toronto. Prior to becoming a teacher, she spent five years as a copy-editor for a major newspaper chain in India.

Huma holds three university degrees: a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master’s degree in Communication and Journalism, and a Master’s degree in English. She is also TESL certified.

Victoria Wylie, OCT, B.A. (Hons.), B.Ed.
Centre Coordinator

Vicky joined CareerQuest’s Brampton Centre in 2008. She initially worked as an instructor for the Academic Upgrading, Vocation-Specific Literacy & Numeracy Training, Customer Service, and Career Partnership Programs. In early 2010, she was promoted to Centre Coordinator of the Brampton location.

Prior to joining CareerQuest, Vicky was a student at Brock University in the Concurrent Education program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a minor in English, and a Bachelor of Education with qualifications in the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior levels. She completed an Additional Qualifications course in Senior English from York University in 2009. Vicky plans to continue developing her professional skills by taking additional qualification courses in education, English, and History. 

Michelle Barbosa, B.A. (Hons.), TESOL
Centre Coordinator

Michelle began working as an Instructor at CareerQuest's Mississauga Centre in August 2006. She primarily taught academic upgrading and facilitated the Non-Dominant Hand Training Program for the first six months. The following spring she began teaching the ESL class and did so until she was promoted to the position of Senior Instructor in January 2009. In that role she assisted in managing CareerQuest's largest training centre and was the individual primarily responsible for conducting academic assessments with clients there. In February 2010, Michelle was promoted to the position of Centre Coordinator for CareerQuest's Etobicoke Centre.

Prior to working for CareerQuest, Michelle completed a co-op program in which she taught children at an elementary school. Before taking up teaching, Michelle utilized her excellent interpersonal skills in the customer service sector for seven years.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Sociology from the University of Toronto and is also TESOL certified.

Jason Cahill, B.A., T.E.S.L.
Centre Coordinator

Jason joined CareerQuest's Toronto Centre in January 2006 and has taught a variety of our programs, including Academic Upgrading, College Preparation, Computer Skills Training, and Non-Dominant Hand Training. He was promoted to Senior Instructor of our Etobicoke Centre in June 2009 and became Centre Coordinator of our Toronto operation in September 2009.

Jason began his extensive teaching experience at a leading English-teaching company in Japan, where he served adult clients of all ages. Upon returning to the Toronto area, he gained further ESL teaching experience, tutored high school students in English and math, and assisted business clients in improving their writing skills. Before taking up teaching, Jason worked in his family's restaurant and catering business, where he honed his customer service and other business skills.

Jason holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario as well as a post-graduate-level Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Toronto.

Laura Lacava, B.A. (Hons.), Rehab. Cert., T.E.S.L.
Centre Coordinator

Laura became a member of the CareerQuest team in September 2008 as the Quality Assurance Specialist. She facilitated various internal organizational practices, including the delivery and assessment of client programs, the preparation of program proposals for prospective clients, and the ongoing publication of monthly progress reports. More recently, Laura became the Centre Coordinator of the Vaughan Centre, where she is responsible for its daily operations.

Prior to joining CareerQuest, Laura was employed as a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant. In this role she provided disability management services to individuals who had experienced work-related injuries by coordinating and implementing Labour Market Re-Entry Plans, monitoring client training programs, and helping clients overcome barriers to employment.

Laura holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from York University. She also obtained certificates in Rehabilitation Services and Life Skills Coaching from Seneca College and T.E.S.L. certification from the Toronto District School Board. Laura hopes to apply her education and experience to assist clients achieve their personal and professional goals.
