Instructor/Facilitator Practicum Placement JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Summary:
The role of the Instructor/Facilitator Intern is to assist and deliver training programs and services to CareerQuest Inc. clients. This individual’s primary role is to aid in providing training according to established curricula, but may also include developing new training programs and/or materials. He/she will assist in delivering training, correct/mark submitted work, track client performance and attendance, develop and implement remedial teaching strategies, and proactively assist the client in achieving his/her goals. The Instructor/Facilitator Intern will assist full- and part-time instructors in writing progress reports and provide the centre coordinator with written progress updates, as required, before meetings with clients and case managers. This individual is someone who has strong interpersonal and communication skills and is able to manage student behaviours and demands in a manner that fosters a positive learning environment. This individual also possesses a sufficient mastery of the material in his/her subject area(s) to deliver the necessary training with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. A CareerQuest Instructor/Facilitator Intern is proactive, is adaptable and able to deliver a variety of programs, and performs his/her functions in a manner consistent with CareerQuest’s corporate values and policies.
Reporting Relationship:
Immediate supervisor is the centre coordinator or instructor to whom the successful applicant has been assigned.
Role and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Acting as an Instructor/Facilitator and carrying out all tasks assigned by the centre coordinator or supervising instructor
Will be required to act as the assisting instructor for clients by completing tasks such as those in the following, non-exhaustive, list:
- Assistant Teaching assist in delivering the provided training curricula in a highly accurate and professional manner, assisting in correcting tests as necessary to assess the student's progress, and developing and implementing remedial teaching strategies for students
- Materials Preparation acquiring texts required for students' programs, photocopying and printing worksheets as needed, creating supplemental material and tests as needed, and acquiring approval to use supplemental material
- Documentation assist the instructors in writing progress reports in an accurate and thorough manner according to provided templates as required, providing written progress updates in anticipation of meetings with case managers, and accurately and thoroughly documenting student attendance, punctuality, completed material, test scores, etc., on provided forms
- Assist in Student Supervision explaining CareerQuest expectations, policies, and procedures to students, ensuring students do not engage in any unsafe or harassing behaviour, reporting immediately to staff any student illnesses or health emergencies
- Acting as a positive role model for clients by maintaining a professional presence at all times
- Proactively engaging in problem resolution to ensure an efficient and effective outcome to issues falling within his or her purview
- Reporting issues that require the centre coordinator or senior management's attention to the individual empowered to respond
- Accepting and providing constructive feedback
- Ensuring that discretion and confidentiality are exercised when working with information relating to clients or the organization
- Acting in accordance with CareerQuest Inc.'s Privacy Policy
- Acting in accordance with CareerQuest Inc.'s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
- Any other duties as assigned by an instructor, centre coordinator, or senior member of the management team
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications and Key Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in progress or completed from a recognized university
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral)
- Sufficient knowledge base in intended area(s) of instruction to delivery highly accurate and professional training
- TESL/TESOL certification preferred for those intending to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
- Sound time management and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, as required
- Well-developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
- Proficiency with the Windows XP or Vista operating system, MS Office applications, and Internet browsing software
- Strong track record of consistent and punctual work attendance
Preferred Qualifications and Key Abilities:
- Experience as an Instructor/Facilitator for a variety of the programs and services offered by CareerQuest Inc.
- Knowledge of academic assessment/computer assessment tools used by CareerQuest Inc.
- Demonstrated ability to employ good common sense
